Storing Furniture

Furniture storage is one of the main reasons people rent self storage. Unless you're ready to part with the furniture, renting a furniture storage unit is simply the only way to hold on to it all without cluttering the house.

Family Storage

After a family inherits an estate, it's often necessary to find estate storage for the short term or even long term. This kind of family storage is not uncommon because it's often difficult to part with family heirlooms, especially when somebody down the line could use them, such as the recent college grad that is moving into their own place for the first time. Family storage can also be more affordable if the cost is split between siblings, for example. Some people have family storage for many years while others will rent a family storage unit for a few years until they are ready to move it out.

Some people may have experienced their garage turning into a furniture storage unit when their kids are in college, moving from apartment to apartment, before settling down. Home storage is great, but not everyone has room for that. Others, who have room for home storage, just don't want to lose their garage space to their kid's beds, tables, chairs, sofas and boxes.

Finding The Right Furniture Storage Unit

When storing furniture, there are some important things to consider. First, think about what size furniture storage unit you need. If you're looking for inexpensive furniture storage, you're probably going to want to find the smallest furniture storage unit that will hold your stuff. Typically, the smallest unit in a storage facility is 5'x 5'. This furniture storage cube is big enough to store a small room, including some chairs, a small desk, and some boxes, but it may not be big enough for storing large furniture, like couches and dining tables. This living room furniture storage, or large furniture storage, may require a 5' x 10' or 5' x 15'. Also, be sure to check that the doors are wide enough that you can easily get the furniture into the furniture storage box, or furniture storage cube.

After considering what size furniture storage box you need, it's time to consider location and price. Naturally, choosing the furniture storage box that is closest to you may be the most convenient. However, if you're storing old furniture for the long term, it may not be as important to have your furniture storage down the street. There may be cheaper options that are still local enough. Depending on how often you plan on accessing the furniture storage box and how many years you plan on paying for it, finding storage for furniture in a neighboring area may be worth the extra distance to get the cheapest furniture storage box.

Furniture & Storage

There are a few things to consider with furniture & storage. Most importantly, consider how to store furniture. If you are storing antique furniture, which is temperature sensitive, you may need climate controlled self storage. This usually costs a little bit more, but it will keep your furniture from warping or molding in humid conditions. This is probably a good idea for all wood furniture storage, not just antique furniture storage. If you are storing modern furniture, storage may be less expensive if it doesn't require climate control. Storage for furniture in any case may benefit from furniture covers to protect against scratches or dings when moving things around. Packing your furniture correctly before renting a storage unit can also guard against problems, such as molding.

Furniture Storage Reviews

Jacksonville
I learned a valuable lesson when storing furniture while waiting for my house to be built. To save money, I got a unit without air conditioning. By the time I went to get the furniture out, it was covered with mold and mildew. I ended up having to throw almost everything that had fabric on it away. It ended up costing me alot more money to replace the furniture than it would have to pay more for A/C.

Ionia, MI
I have an overall pleasant experience with this storage place. Besides being the cheapest in town its location is somewhat convenient to me. It is located on one of the major roads in Ionia and I can stop at it on the way to my friends house. the only problem I have ever had is that it floods whenever it rains or the snow melts. If I ever had to close my storage shed and then get another one in the future I would probably go to the same business again.

Leominster, Massachusetts
Over the past year I was getting ready to move out of state so I needed a place to store some large furniture since I was not going to be able to take the pieces with me right away. I was going to have to come back after the move and ship them out. The customer service rep that was available to help me was very knowledgeable about what type of storage unit would be best for me given the amount of furniture I had. Before committing to any decisions he went over what the rates were on the units, accessibility to the units during and after hours and then showed me the actual unit I'd be renting if I had made the decision to rent that day. I was at first concerned that because i was scouting for units and not making a decision just yet that I was not going to be able to get the unit I needed but the employee quickly told me that I could reserve that exact room at no charge if I needed some time. The whole process was quick and I was so happy with the service I ended up renting the unit a few days later. I would definitely go back to this facility any time I need storage.

Townson, MD
I have a self storage unit at EZ Storage in Townson, MD for a year now and it has been going quite well. I needed to move some large furniture as I was moving to a smaller place and EZ Storage was very helpful. I paid only $1 for the first month for my 5 by 10 unit and each month after that has been about $90. My unit is climate controlled and it has controlled access so only those who have a unit can access the building which makes me feel my possessions are secure. Also EZ Storage is convenient because I can pay my monthly storage fee over the internet. Overall, my experience with self-storage has been very positive.

Staten Island, New York
This particular establishment was clean and offered many size containers to rent. I had livingroom furniture and odds and ends that didn't fit into my current apartment so I chose this convenient storage facility. They sucker you in with the first month costing $1. Subsequent months on my unit were only $49.95, however they added on plenty of fees including: security, duplicate key fees, and a penalty for ending a lease earlier than an agreed 6 month contract. Not so bad, I kept my stuff there for about a year. They provided excellent security so I was not afraid of my stuff vanishing.
