Cheap Moving & Storage

Relocating can be a stressful process, especially when finding cheap storage and moving options is difficult.

If you are a college student relocating after graduation or a business professional relocating for work, you will probably be looking for an affordable moving company and maybe a cheap storage option on one end of the move or the other.

Some moving companies offer a mini + moving option, whether you need long term storage or simply a temporary storage container while you are packing. While it is certainly convenient to find a mini moving option all in one, it might not be the most affordable storage option.

Find cheap self storage when moving

There are a variety of relocation storage options to choose from when moving. Portable storage containers, also referred to as moving portable storage or moving container storage, are often the most popular because the storage container is delivered to your home, picked up, and then delivered to your new location when you are ready.

Depending on how much stuff you have, renting a storage moving container can be the most affordable storage option. This temporary portable storage unit can come in handy on either or both sides of the move even if for bigger moves across longer distances, a portable storage unit may not be a feasible option.

A great marketplace to find shipping

However, a great way to find affordable an affordable shipping is to use uShip, an auction style marketplace where shipping companies bid on you, the customer. Then, mini self storage can be used to supplement the move to make for an overall cheap moving and shipping experience.

Moving & Storage Tips

  • Make a list of the things you need to do in order to make the move less stressful and more successful. This can include finding a moving company and a temporary portable storage unit and then deciding which items you want to move through the storage company verses through the mini storage container.
  • Getting estimates from several moving companies and portable storage companies is always a good idea to ensure that you get the best price. Often, reviewing several mover's websites, as well as testimonial sites, will give you a better idea about the quality of the service that the moving company offers.
  • After you have selected the moving and storage company that works best for you, review your moving details with them.
  • Finally, make sure to have plenty of supplies, including storage boxes, tape, and pens! These go fast when packing up all of your stuff.

Moving and Storage Reviews

Tulsa
I rented a self storage unit when I moved to the Tulsa area, as I was renting a small apartment and didn't have room for all of my things. The storage facility was secured with a gate and a code along with onsite management. The manager was there 24 hours. I ended up having a break in about the third month. All but my bed, dresser and mattress were taken. The office manager and the ownere stated that they were not liable. They had no indication of how this happened. I would not use self storage again unless it was absolutely necessary.

Henderson
I rented the storage for a period of 3 months. The entire experience was quite positive. I had to move out of my apartment but had 3 months before I can move into my house. The storage facilities are well lit, easy to access and all under climate control. The climate control part was quite essential for Henderson as it is in Nevada, where the temperature is often above 100 degrees. All in all, I'd say the whole experience was very smooth from the minute I call to find out about the space & pricing to moving everything out 3 months later.

For Waryne, IN
I used Northway U-Loc & Stor 9435 Leo Rd Fort Wayne, IN 46825-2445. There were absolutely fantastic. I needed to rent two units and I could not get side by side or one large units but they worked with us to get a two nearby units. I had a semi moving my household to the unit and they arranged to have an extra gate open for a semi access. This is not a major franchise unit more more a mom and pop unit that really cares for its tenants. I would rent again in the storage facility without a moments hesitation. The owners were seen many times patrolling the very safe area

Staten Island, New York
This particular establishment was clean and offered many size containers to rent. I had livingroom furniture and odds and ends that didn't fit into my current apartment so I chose this convenient storage facility. They sucker you in with the first month costing $1. Subsequent months on my unit were only $49.95, however they added on plenty of fees including: security, duplicate key fees, and a penalty for ending a lease earlier than an agreed 6 month contract. Not so bad, I kept my stuff there for about a year. They provided excellent security so I was not afraid of my stuff vanishing.

Kansas City, Missouri
I used StorageMart for my storage needs when I was in the process of selling our home and moving to another location. It came in useful for when the house was listed, as it allowed me to move a lot of items out and make the house appear less cluttered. It helped market the house and it looked more presentable. It also made me feel more secure that some items were not in the house when it was being shown, especially during open houses.

Richmond, Virginia
I was moving from Alexandria, Virginia to Richmond, Virginia (about 100 miles) and wanted to do it gradually, over a three-month period. I rented a 10x10 storage locker at the Mini-Price Self Storage in the Richmond area. They were having an incredible sale at the time, so all I paid was $50 for three months (at the end of the three months the price went up to $75 a month). The locker was an interior unit and was temperature controlled, so I knew my stuff was not going to get too hot or too cold. They even supplied the lock and had a keycode access. I was very pleased with my experience. It allowed me to move my belongings gradually and avoid the stress of having to do everything at once. The manager of the facility was helpful, and there were no hassles at the end of the four months, when I turned in my key (after I had finished my last trip).

Woodward, OK
I was extremely pleased at first, because, I was in a desperate need of a place to put stuff, because I was in the process of packing to move, but, then it rained, and there was a leak in the storage building, alot of my things were distroyed, and the owner / manager said there was nothing he could do.
