August 30, 2017 — Almost exactly nine years after two college seniors started SpareFoot in their UCLA dorm room, the company announced today that it has generated more than $1 billion in revenue for its clients. SpareFoot.com is the largest marketplace for storage, making it easier to move and store your stuff. The site allows consumers to compare self-storage, full-service storage, car storagetruck rental, and moving services.

SpareFoot has raised almost $60 million in venture capital to date from Capital Factory, Insight Venture Partners, FLOODGATE, Revolution Growth and Silverton Partners.

“As an early investor with SpareFoot, we’re thrilled to see its amazing success as the go-to site for millions of Americans to find and rent storage,” said Kip McClanahan, General Partner at Silverton Partners.

SpareFoot customers have rented more than 95 million square feet of storage area since the company launched in August 2008. Considering that the average storage unit is about eight feet tall, customers have rented more than 765 million cubic square feet of storage space on SpareFoot.

“To put it in perspective, our customers have rented enough space to fill the equivalent of more than 20 Empire State Buildings,” said SpareFoot CEO Chuck Gordon.

The company has created an infographic to celebrate its ninth anniversary that gives more context of how much stuff SpareFoot has helped store in the past nine years.

The company now covers over 4,000 cities in the U.S. and lists over 12,000 storage facilities on SpareFoot.com. SpareFoot helps storage clients market their product and availability to potential renters, and helps customers find and compare the best deals.

“SpareFoot.com is a key marketing tool for our facilities,” said Sean Barron of Snapbox Self Storage. “SpareFoot helps our business grow by giving us the opportunity to market directly to customers shopping for self-storage. And, they provide first class service which is what truly sets them apart.”

SpareFoot.com is the largest marketplace for storage, making it easier to move and store your stuff. The SpareFoot website lets you find and compare the best storage deals near you, and instantly rent online or by phone for free. With the most up-to-date information on storage available, SpareFoot makes finding your stuff a home the easiest thing to cross off your to-do list.
