The best monthly price I found in the Bakersfield region
The facility seems secure, with a code-entry gate to enter storage and lighting throughout, though I've only been there during the day. The hours are also reasonable--7 days a week from 6AM to 9PM, with a sharp closing time of 9PM (gates lock). Unlike other storage facilities whose storage rooms are littered, North Chester's, from what I've seen, appear reasonably clean. The facility is exposed to the elements, so one has to be aware of any potential effects of heat on sensitive equipment (electronics...).
Over the years I've used a few storage facilities so know there's always paperwork involved. However, North Chester's was by far the most complex. It was no simple arrive, sign a single contract, then leave. There were pages after pages after pages of legal documents to fill out and sign, together with a requirement either to purchase their insurance policy or have home-owner's or renter's insurance. I have to confess I was so overwhelmed by the volume and severity of the legal documents (language...) that I almost canceled the transaction--but I had a friend waiting for me in my moving van (and wait he did! Nearly a half hour while I finished all the paperwork...).
I'd found a coupon for North Chester on Sparefoot, and the facility honored it, though at first it seemed they might not. I'm grateful they did, though, as I wouldn't have rented the space if I'd had to pay an administrative fee on top of a monthly rental fee--just to keep part of my library out of my tiny apartment. So be sure you have a copy of any promotional emails and ads that clearly state the terms of the promotion.
To end on a couple of positives: the young woman who waited on me was pleasant--which, sadly, is too often not the case in "customer service" in a big city today. And my favorite part of the whole experience, other than finally finishing my move, was the go-cart ride to the actual storage unit she was going to assign to me and back to the rental office. It was surprisingly fun!
