not enough attendants, pricey
I arrived at 3pm to fill out my paperwork for a storage I reserved online through SpareFoot, and to have movers I was paying by the hour move my stuff in. I had called the day before to check that this would not be a problem. When I got there, the door was locked, and I had to walk around to the loading bay to find the attendant. It turns out they only have *one* attendant on duty at a time, so when they leave for even a short time, you're screwed! I got lucky, because I caught her just before she was leaving for lunch (so late b/c that's the first free time she seemed to be getting) and she was nice enough to wait around for my movers to load in my stuff. If she didn't I would have had to pay them for an extra hour! This is ridiculous: they need to have at least two attendants so they can cover for each other during breaks.
Another issue is that SpareFoot's reservation did not go through on their system, so I was lucky to get the space I thought I'd reserved. And the "first month free" online special that made me go with that location was out of date. So SpareFoot and Central Public Storage need to coordinate better. Ultimately, I lay the blame on SpareFoot since the promises were made by their website... they should be responsible for presenting up to date information.
Finally, this storage is twice as expensive as a storage I have in Pasadena, CA, but it is significantly smaller! I didn't do much shopping around to compare prices, so this may just be the region (but I think Pasadena and Berkeley are similar in many respects, so the prices shouldn't be that different).
