Eastern Washington is a place that came seem a world away from its Western counterparts. Not that Spokane residents don’t love coffee as well, but there is a different culture here than in other areas of the Evergreen state. Visit all of these top landmarks in Spokane and you will soon see why.

1. Radio Flyer Wagon

The giant red wagon isn’t your typical Radio Flyer, it is a large scale replica that doubles as an interactive slide for little ones. Formally titled, The Childhood Express, the Radio Flyer Red Wagon stands 12 feet high and 27 feet long. The wagon was built in 1989 and has since become a staple landmark in Spokane. It can hold as many as 300 people, and its handle is a slide that youngsters love to enjoy. This iconic outdoor spot sits in Riverfront Park in the heart of downtown.

2. Spokane Falls

Located within Riverfront Park, Spokane Falls is a beautiful piece of nature within walking distance to many downtown offices. Located on the Spokane River, the falls flow steadily all year round. Spring and fall are the best times to view the falls. Don’t be surprised to see wedding pictures being taken there on any given Saturday. Gondola cars also provide visitors a unique view of the natural attraction, along with grand views of the city itself.

3. Green Bluff

The Green Bluff Grower’s Association was founded in 1902 and includes a variety of farms located at the base of Mt. Spokane. Located just 15 minutes north of the city, Green Bluff is the prime spot for all of your farm needs: from picking strawberries to fresh produce, to pumpkins, to Christmas trees. Multiple events take place in the Green Bluff area, and each farm has a set schedule and visiting hours. Check what is in a season before you go and get their early on the weekend to avoid the crowds.

4. Dick’s Hamburgers

Since 1965 Dick’s Hamburgers has become an iconic staple in Downtown Spokane. Located right off of I-90, this low-cost burger joint attracts anyone looking for a quick and cheap meal. You’ll see many college students flock to grab hamburgers “by the bagfull” as well as enjoy some fries and a milkshake.  The experience is a big dose of pure nostalgia.

5. The White Elephant

One of the most iconic outdoor places in Spokane is the White Elephant located on North Division. This surplus wonderland has been in the area for over 70 years. Even if you don’t go inside, which we recommend, you’ll find plenty on the outside to look at as well as selfie opportunities. The White Elephant features a white building trimmed in red paint along with many white elephant pictures, drawings, and even a little statue near the front door.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy coming to the White Elephant to find a discount on treasures and items for the home.
