Here at SpareFoot, we LOVE our pets. We know we’re lucky that we get to bring them to work with us too! Our @sparefoot Instagram account is filled with images of our furry friends, and we were even mentioned in a Forbes article about reasons dog-friendly workplaces attract millennials. And when we’re not giving TLC to our furry friends or working, we love checking out some of our favorite cuddly buddies on Instagram.

We were curious to know more about the biggest pet social media stars — what breeds, their backstory, how they got where they are, and any tips for those looking to grow their pets social media following. Those tips will be shared in a separate piece, but in doing this research, we discovered some interesting trends in predicting social media pet stardom. The following traits and/or adoptive family may predict social media stardom:

  • Being owned by a creative — photographer, visual artist, designer
  • Extraordinarily attractive/adorable/cute
  • Ridiculously ugly/strange looking
  • Having the appearance of human features like eyebrows or a moustache
  • Cuddly and/or patient in terms of being dressed up and posed
  • Being a French Bulldog
  • Your owner is connected and/or a social media celebrity themselves

Here’s a list of some of the cleverest, cutest, and most-followed stars:
