Self-storage operator Westport Properties has promoted Scott Nguyen to chief financial officer.

Nguyen joined the Irvine, CA-based company in 2008 as vice president and corporate controller. Nguyen will continue to oversee accounting and reporting, in addition to closing acquisition and development deals. As CFO, he’s adding responsibilities for corporate strategy and investor relations.

Westport Properties is the parent company of US Storage Centers, which operates more than 70 locations in 13 states. The company employs more than 200 people.

“Scott has played a significant role in the growth of our company,” said Charles Byerly, president and CEO of Westport Properties. “He’s a highly experienced financial professional, and he has demonstrated exceptional leadership.”

Byerly was CFO of Westport until October 2012, when he was promoted to president and CEO. Byerly filled the vacated roles of founder Barry Hoeven, who’s now executive chairman.

Nguyen brings 17 years of accounting and finance experience to his job as CFO.

“The overall growth we’ve seen since I started here has been tremendous,” Nguyen said, “and I’m confident we have a strong team in place to continue that expansion.”
