After 11 years on the job, Michael Scanlon is stepping down as CEO of the Self Storage Association (SSA).
Tim Dietz, current chief operating officer (pictured at top), will take over the top role effective October 1.
“Mike’s tenure included the best and worst of times for our industry and his steadfast leadership and courage was truly appreciated,” said John Barry, chairman of the SSA.
The board of directors voted unanimously in favor of Dietz promotion, which was announced August 24.
Dietz was promoted to his current role late last year. He joined the organization in 2004 and led the group’s lobbying and marketing efforts as director of government relations.
The SSA recently hired Marcus Dunn to fill that role. Dunn recently served as the director of government relations for the Security Industry Association and has had various legislative support roles in Congress. Dunn is also an actor with a large number of television, motion picture, commercial, theater and industrial film credits.
The SSA celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The not-for-profit trade organization lobbies Congress and federal agencies on behalf of its 5,500 members who collectively own 22,000 self-storage facilities in the U.S. The Alexandria, VA-based group is also affiliated with 38 state and regional self-storage associations.
