Aspen, CO-based Terrapin Investments is seeking permission to build an 110,000-square-foot self-storage facility with 774-units just outside of Petaluma, CA at 2645 Petaluma Boulevard South. Terrapin purchased the site, a former truck scale, for $1.4 million in December. Petaluma City Council voiced concerns that the project is not the best gateway to their city in an article by the Argus-Courier, however the project lies within the jurisdiction of Sonoma County.

Nashville, TN-based Warden Storage Old Louisville LLC purchased the former Alton Box Company building at 646 W. Hill Street in Louisville, KY for $1.18 million. The buyer plans to redevelop the property into a self-storage facility, according to the Courier-Journal. The 112,850-square-foot project is located near the University of Louisville.

A joint venture equity group is developing an 851-unit self-storage facility at 15500 Vintage Preserve Parkway in Spring, TX. The site is located within The Vintage, a 630-acre master-planned community. The development manager, Vintage Hannah One LLC, worked with Barbara Guffey with HFF to obtain financing from the unnamed equity partner.

Lake Forest, IL-based Metro Self Storage recently acquired a vacant lawn and garden store at 351 Route 22 in Plainfield, NJ and announced plans to convert the building into a 65,000-square-foot self-storage facility. The existing two-story structure will be transformed into a five-story building with 653 units. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2016.

ThomasTown Builders is set to start work this spring on a 109,357-square-foot self-storage facility at 8601 Foothills Boulevard in Roseville, CA. The facility will operate under the name Roseville Self Storage and comprise four buildings. The cost of the project is estimated to be $4.9 million, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. ThomasTown is also working on plans to build a 110,000-square-foot facility with 800 units in Rocklin, CA.

The Woonsocket Call reports that the owners of the vacant retail store at 2010 Diamond Hill Road in Woonsocket, RI have requested permission from the local zoning board to convert the property into a self-storage facility. Home improvement retailer Lowe’s vacated the property two years ago and the owners have been unable to attract a new tenant.

Under Construction

Amazing Spaces broke ground on its fifth self-storage facility, a 103,000-square-foot building located at the intersection of FM 2978 and Research Forest Drive in the The Woodlands, TX. Rowland Construction Company is serving as general contractor. Amazing Spaces plans to break ground on another facility later this year.

Completed

U-Haul recently completed a two-story self-storage building containing 571 units at 5200 Veterans Boulevard in Fargo, ND. The building also includes 5,000-square-feet of warehouse space for U-Box portable storage units. The development is an expansion of an existing facility recently acquired by U-Haul that had an existing 237 drive-up units.
