Phoenix-based Wentworth Storage Company purchased an 11-acre site at 17492 N. 91st Street in North Scottsdale, AZ where it plans to build a 120,000-square-foot self-storage facility. Wentworth purchased the land with its development partner, Crow Holdings, for $4.35 million. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter and be completed by the first quarter of 2018.
Wentworth closed on more than $160 million of self-storage projects last year and has a portfolio of 1.3 million rentable square feet.
A former Sports Authority store in Orlando, FL will be converted to a self-storage facility by Volta Global LLC which purchased the site recently. The 90,000-square-foot facility will be managed by Extra Space Storage. The project is Volta’s first ground-up development since the company entered the self storage market in 2016 under the First USA Storage brand, according to the SSA Globe. The developer owns and operates self-storage in North Carolina, Tennessee and Louisiana.
Pullam Properties is planning to build a self-storage facility on Gerber Road in Asheville, NC, according to Mountain Xpress. A zoning change is pending approval.
U-Haul is planning a new moving and storage facility on Route 30 in Amsterdam, NY. The two-story facility would also feature four detached self-storage building, according to The Recorder.
An unidentified developer is seeking approval to build a five-story self-storage facility in Savannah, GA. the site is located behind the Whole Foods off of Dixie Avenue, according to WJCL.com.
Titan Development is planning to develop a self-storage facility at NM 528 and NM 448 in the River’s Edge neighborhood of Rio Rancho, NM, the Rio Rancho Observer reported. The facility would be operated by Extra Space Storage.
NitNeil Partners started construction on a new 90,000-square-foot self-storage facility in Huntsville, AL earlier this month. The site is located off Highway 72 West corridor near the border of Huntsville and Madison. The multistory facility will draw from the ‘new urbanist’ inspired Village of Providence, located one mile away. The facility will also serve the nearby Cummings Research Park, the second largest research park in the United States which houses 300 science and technology companies and employs over 30,000 people.
“The surrounding business and residential communities are demanding a quality, climate-controlled self-storage facility that is not currently available in the area today”, said Val Sapra, founder of NitNeil Partners. The project is NitNeil’s eighth facility in the market, covering nearly 500,000 square feet in total.
NorthPoint Development is building two new facilities in Chesterfield, MO that will operate under the name Beyond Self Storage. The facilities are located at 17481 North Outer 40 Road in and 2321 McCausland Avenue in Chesterfield—a market of St. Louis. The first facility will offer more than 100,000 square feet of storage space. Both locations are expected to open this summer.
Century Storage is building a new 57,800-square foot storage building to expand its existing facility in Davenport, FL. The addition will grow the existing facility to more than 100,000 square feet. The construction will also include 45,000 square feet of covered boat and RV parking along with a separate section of 64 commercial vehicle parking spaces.
The Woodlands Development Company, a division of The Howard Hughes Corporation, opened a new facility at 32010 FM 2978 in the The Woodlands Village of Sterling Ridge, a part of the Houston metro area. CubeSmart will manage the 784-unit facility.
According to Inside Self-Storage, real estate firm Hibernia Capital Advisors opened a new self-storage facility at 1616 E. Portland St. in Phoenix, AZ. The 85,000-square-foot facility will be managed by Cox Armored Mini Storage under the name Garfield Storage, it is located in the downtown Garfield Historic District.
