The Davis Group plans to open two self-storage facilities in summer 2018.

The developer is working on an Extra Space Storage site at the Presidio Towne Center in Fort Worth, TX. The site is off I-35W, exit 61. It will have 134,000 square feet and room for 1,124 units. The Davis Group will build one three-story building with climate control, plus three one-story, non-climate controlled buildings. Presidio Towne Crossing has more than 1 million square feet of retail.

The company also is working on CubeSmart at Sugarloaf, located at 5065 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA. It’s located off of GA-316/University Parkway. It will have 103,000 square feet and 859 units. It sits on a 4.95-acre site. It will have one three-story and two two-story buildings.

TD Self Storage is planning a 100,000-square-foot self-storage facility in Orlando, FL near the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The facility includes solar photovoltaic panels to meet the site’s annual energy demand, as well as a geothermal heating and air-conditioning system and a rainwater harvesting system.

The York County Planning Commission will vote Nov. 8 on the Adams Property Group LLC’s request to turn a Farm Fresh grocery store into a self-storage facility in Williamsburg, VA. The Commission will vote whether or not to recommend the proposal to the board of supervisors. The 7.34-acre property, at 445 Merrimac Trail, is in the Shoppes at Merrimac Center near State Route 143. Adams Property Group would add 30,000 square feet of storage to the 63,000-square-foot building. If a three-story self-storage facility is approved in Carolina Forest, SC, it would be the tallest building in the area. Carolina Forest is an unincorporated community in Horry County. The site is at the corner of Savoy Drive and Village Center Boulevard. The unnamed storage project will create 96,000 square feet of space in 668 units. The area needs another self-storage facility because most HOAs don’t allow storage sheds or accessory buildings on resident property, according to David Schwerd, deputy director for the county’s planning and zoning department. A California-based developer has asked for zoning approval to turn a former Macy’s building in Richmond Heights, OH, into a mixed-use site that would include a CubeSmart self-storage facility and retail. The planning and zoning committee will vote Nov. 7 on the proposal. The property is located at 641 Richmond Road in the Richmond Town Square, which is mostly empty following the departures of J.C. Penney Co, Sears and others. Jernigan Capital Inc. (NYSE: JCAP) is investing $14.7 million in a proposed seven-story self-storage facility with 68,000 rentable square feet in North Bergen, NJ. Mequity LLC of Atlanta will develop the facility, which will be located in a high-population area across the Hudson River from Manhattan on John F. Kennedy Boulevard. The Richfield, NC town council approved a plan from property owners Matthew and Danielle Mauldin to develop a self-storage facility with 18,000 square feet in 100 units. The former NewLand Nursery and Landscaping Center in Ellsworth, ME, will be developed into a mixed-use property that will include self-storage and residential duplexes. Chad Francis, owner of Atlantic Landscape Construction Inc., has purchased the property, a 9.5-acre site at 124 Bangor Road. Francis plans to build five self-storage buildings with a total of 300 units. A self-storage facility is going up in a landmark location in Hillyard, WA. It will have 12 one-story buildings and a total of 88,000 square feet of storage space. Site owner Harland Douglass has received permits to prepare the site of the demolished Joe E. Mann Center, 4415 N. Market St., for construction. Extensive vandalism thwarted the plans of city, school and tribal leaders to turn the abandoned site into a city gateway of sorts. The Carroll Cos. opened a new Bee Safe Storage and Wine Cellar at 306 Harrison Bridge Road in Simpsonville, SC, on Nov. 1. The Carroll Cos., a real estate development firm, runs five self-storage facilities in the Carolinas. It also has more facilities under development in the Carolinas, but is cutting back because of oversupply in some markets. It will proceed on five self-storage projects planned for the Triad area of Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem, NC, and has stopped its project at the corner of Tarrant Road and Wendover Avenue in Greensboro.
