A marketing executive at self-storage REIT Extra Space Storage has been named a winner in the 40 Under 40 Awards program sponsored by marketing industry publication Direct Marketing News.

Melissa Burdon is marketing optimization director at Extra Space Storage. According to her LinkedIn profile, Burdon oversees customer acquisition for various platforms, including desktop, mobile, email, click-to-chat and social media.

Burdon has worked at the REIT since January 2013. Her previous experience includes marketing roles at CITY Cosmetics and FutureNow.

James Overturf, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Extra Space, said on the REIT’s blog: “Melissa exemplifies the type of employees we strive to hire at Extra Space Storage. She’s a very capable and talented individual with an incredible understanding of online marketing. Her and her team’s efforts in marketing optimization have had a monumental impact on the online success of our company.”

Direct Marketing News will hand out the 40 Under 40 Awards on Sept. 30 in New York City. More than 200 young marketers were nominated for the awards. The publication describes the winners as “a group of young, standout marketers whose work has already left an indelible mark on their organizations, clients, and the industry as a whole.”
