The City Planning Commission approved Safeguard Self Storage’s proposal to expand into a new three-story building that would be adjacent to its current location at 931 Erato St. in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans, LA. Safeguard wants to build a 63,000-square-foot warehouse to hold 509 mini-storage units, and it would replace an existing one-story warehouse that holds an office for a private security company. Next up is a City Council review.
A 97,000-square-foot, 450-unit, $5.5 million self-storage facility is being built at 8502 W. Geiger Blvd. in Spokane, A. It’s northwest of a 2.5 million-square-foot building that may become an Amazon fulfillment center. The storage facility will have six buildings. Units become available in September. All Seasons Mini-Storage and Amazing Mini-Storage are two of the names being considered for the new facility. John Wood is the designer and general contractor. Earlier this year, he sold A Better Storage Solution in Post Falls, WA.

Talonvest Capital Inc. negotiated $28 million in construction financing for Leon Capital Group on three properties in the Pacific Northwest – two in Portland, OR, and one in Vancouver, WA. They would total 320,000 square feet and 3,112 storage units. The Portland facility, to be located on Columbia Boulevard, is expected to have approximately 147,900 square feet. In Milwaukie, OR, near Portland, there’ll be a development with 88,600 square feet on Oak Gove Boulevard. The Vancouver site would have approximately 83,500 square feet. Talonvest Capital, a boutique self-storage and commercial real estate mortgage brokerage firm, had Kim Leslie Bishop, Eric Snyder, Jim Davies and Terra Hendrich represent Leon Capital Group.
In Michigan, the Farmington Hills City Council approved a Beyond Self Storage building and a senior living facility, called Stonecrest Senior Living, for 32600 Northwestern Highway. It’s a NorthPoint Development project, and the company plans to build on about 5 acres of a 10-acre parcel at 14 Mile Road and Northwestern Highway. The self-storage building would have 691 storage units.

In Pennsylvania, Reading Storage LLC is under contract to buy the property of the former Hillside swimming pool, according to Ryan D. McFadden, managing partner of Reading Storage LLC. He would demolish the existing buildings and put up new ones that would hold about 250 units. The project requires a use variance because a storage facility is not a permitted use in the R-3 residential district. A decision is expected Aug. 8. Source: Reading Eagle
The Watertown, CT, Planning and Zoning Commission approved an application for a self-storage lot in the industrial park section of town.
A former Pick ’n Save has been reinvented as part antique store and part indoor self-storage facility at 850 E. Maes Ave. in Kimberly, WI. Owner Jaime White has opened Antique Up. White’s father, David Ramsden, bought the building for $1.275 million and plans to put his indoor self-storage business on one side. It will accept storage customers in 2019. Two sections of road in Bohemia, NY, will be removed from the Islip Town map, following a request by owners of surrounding properties that wish to build a self-storage facility. Lake Macatawa Storage is being built on a 12-acre parcel at 500 Douglas Ave. in Holland Township, MI. Construction is nearly done on two buildings on the site, and they’ll have a combined 16,000 square feet and 100 units. The next project will be a 10,000 sf office and climate-control building. That will be followed by three more storage buildings that will increase the complex’s size to 51,000 square feet. Treasure Island Self-Storage is opening at 2325 Hollers Ave. in the Eastchester section of the Bronx, NY. It has four stories, 124,936 square feet and 1,853 units. Wilbur Butz is the designer, Treasure Island the developer and Pinnacle Commercial Development the general contractor.
A LockBox Storage facility opened at 426 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville, SC. The three-story building has 90,000 square feet and 700 units.
