Hattiesburg, MS-based Spacebox bought a vacant, 92,164-square-foot warehouse at 2670 Colonial Blvd. for $6.4 million in Fort Myers, FL, and plans to turn it into a self-storage facility. The deal ranks as the largest industrial transaction in Lee County this year. The building, which sits on a 10.3-acre parcel, previously had been leased by Sears, Roebuck & Co. and FedEx. U-Haul Moving & Storage at Mountain Shadows has opened a temporary showroom at 4725 Centennial Blvd. in Colorado Springs, CO, and upon completion, will include about 400 self-storage units. U-Haul purchased an 80,259-square-foot building and has been repurposing it. Extra Space Storage Inc. will manage a new, three-story, 90,000-square-foot self-storage facility in North Charleston, SC, at the intersection of N. Rhett Avenue and Summer Avenue. Miller Valentine, a real estate development firm, and Coastal Storage Group finished the building’s construction recently. A 743-unit “LifeStyle Storage” building by Morning Star Storage has opened at 930 Tyvola Road in Charlotte, NC. The building has five stories and 98,500 square feet, and was designed by Overcash Demmitt Architects, which has coined the phrase “LifeStyle Storage” to cover new, modern storage buildings. “LifeStyle Storage facilities are architecturally significant with accented entrances, color, LED lighting, a mixture of materials and windows,” ODA said.
