Adam Williams, a businessman in Lawrence, KS, has purchased the former Bargain Depot on 23rd Street in that city, and plans to convert that building into a 20,000-square-foot self-storage space. Another party is converting another 23rd Street retail property into the 33,000-sf University Self-Storage, at the Southern Hills Shopping Center. Absolute Storage Management will operate the latter facility.

In West Lawrence, Professional Moving and Storage has filed plans to build a 370-unit facility in the 1300 block of Research Park Drive. And another storage business is being built north of Rock Chalk Park.  Source: Lawrence Journal-World

Owner Mikell Harper and Gramling Brothers Real Estate & Development have delivered a site plan to Charleston County for a 35,928-square-foot storage site, possibly three stories high, to be called Broadway Street Self Storage in Mount Pleasant, SC. It would replace the Peach Orchard Plaza, which dates to 1971, at 423 W. Coleman Blvd. The application also mentions two lots at 415 W. Coleman, where an automotive shop now sits. The site is close to another Gramling property – the former Boulevard Diner, which will become Vicious Biscuits, at 409 W. Coleman. Source: The Post and Courier

Niles, IL, trustees granted an extension of a special-use request that originally was give in August 2017 for a self-storage project in the 7400 block of Waukegan Road. The extension gives DRS Investments another year to obtain building permits. The company plans to build a four-story, 65,000-square-foot building that also would include 1,600 square feet of retail space. The trustees also approved a resolution in favor of a Class 7B tax classification for the property, which is owned by Adams French Property LLCSource: Chicago Tribune

Guardian Storage Centers LLC plans to build a self-storage facility on a 5.3-acre parcel it purchased in Chandler, AZ. The location is at 25710 S. Arizona Ave., for which it paid $1.064 million to LAACO Ltd., parent company of Storage West. The facility will have 62,380 square feet and 576 units, plus 75 parking spaces. Landvest Management of Wichita, KS, is building a multistory self-storage facility in Colorado Springs, CO. It is located at Woodmen and Lee Vance – west of Austin Bluffs – and will be called Security Self-Storage. Landvest operates four other Security Self-Storage sites in Colorado Springs. The Jenkins Organization opened two more storage facilities, including this one in Austin, TX.

The Jenkins Organization, based in Houston, TX, has opened new self-storage facilities in Texas, in Austin and Dallas. In Austin, the new site is called Manchaca Storage. It has 795 units and 93,225 square feet, and is aimed at the South Austin area. In the Dallas area, the company has opened Frisco Self Storage, with 90,520 square feet and 815 units, including some for wine storage. It’s targeted to the North Dallas/Frisco area. Overall, Jenkins handles an ownership and management portfolio of 45 self-storage properties in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota and Louisiana, with a total of more than 3.5 million square feet. Source: The Jenkins Organization

Grow Your Storage Development opened Blackhawk Self Storage at 10646 Blackhawk Blvd. at Riverstone Ranch in the Pearland, TX, area. It has 107,000 square feet. Lee Fredrick and Brandon Grebe are the owners, and they partnered with All Pro Capital on the project. GYS Development also broke ground on a three-story, 105,000-square-feet self-storage project in Fulshear, TX. Cascade Self Storage opened at 1910 Northeast Diamond Lake Blvd. in Roseburg, OR. It has more than 131,000 square feet. The official grand opening will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. The company also has self-storage units in the Medford area.
