Jeremiah 229 LLC is building Marlboro Self Storage, a five-story, 80,000-square-foot, 525-unit self-storage facility at 215 Simarano Drive, Marlborough, MA. It’s on a 3-acre site right off of I-495 and is scheduled to open in fall 2019. O’Brien Commercial Properties, which includes Jeremiah 29 LLC, will manage the business. U-Haul has taken over a former Kmart building on Airport Thruway in Columbus, GA, with plans to convert it into a self-storage facility with 700 units plus moving services. U-Haul Moving & Storage of North Columbus has been working from a temporary showroom since October. Source: WTVM 

Mayor Anthony DiCicco of Mayfield Heights, OH, vetoed a City Council vote to approve a Board of Zoning Appeals decision to allow John Molchan to build a 100,000-square-foot self-storage facility at 1413 Golden Gate Blvd. The location is within a U-4 zoning district, which allows for retail and wholesale businesses, but does not mention self-storage sites. Councilman Robert DeJohn voted against the proposal, saying the precedent would allow self-storage businesses to go up in any business district in Mayfield Heights. DiCicco said Molchan could seek a variance in the zoning laws for his proposed facility. Source:

The city council in Sacramento, CA, will decide about Seattle, WA-based Columbia Pacific Advisors’ proposed self-storage project at 500 Leisure Lane. The site is near Sacramento’s Point West area. The city’s planning commission voted against the proposal for an 18-acre site would have 139,481 square feet and three stories, saying it wouldn’t create enough jobs. Columbia Pacific appealed that decision to the council. The project would go on the former site of the Red Lion Hotel Woodlake. Source: Sacramento Business Journal

A proposed self-storage business in an existing building at 144 Harrison St. in Gloversville, NY, ran into opposition as the city’s planning board questioned the structural integrity of the building. Darrin Romeyn of DM Romeyn Civil Engineering Design, PLLC, hopes to place a 26-unit, 4,417-square-foot business in a vacant building on Harrison on behalf of the property owners. The City Council in Beavercreek, OH, gave preliminary approval to YOLO Development’s rezoning request regarding four parcels on a combined 4.6 acres at the northeast corner of Indian Ripple Road and Harbert Drive. The plan is to build a multi-tenant office building with self-storage units in the rear on the Harbert Drive side of the property. Titan Development Real Estate Fund 1 opened Extra Space Storage 528 & Corrales, located at Highway 528/Corrales Road in Rio Rancho, NM. It has two buildings with 88,032 square feet of space. It’s the second self-storage facility the fund has completed. The first was in Santa Fe, NM, and the company plans to open two more facilities in New Mexico in January. Source: RE Business Online
