“I’m very, very disappointed,” Councilman Dave White said. “I have no confidence the office will ever get built. I think you’re going to dumb it down and essentially going to put an industrial area right next to a residential area. That’s not what we promised those people.”
Those words were a reaction to special-use permit for Metcalf Crossing in Overland Park, KS. The city council delayed a decision on the project until its October 7 meeting.
That’s because developer Wes Grammar at first wanted a self-storage facility, retail pad sites and a hotel. But now he wishes for a larger self-storage facility and office building plus a hotel, as well as a five-stall car wash. The project will replace two existing hotels on site.
Project incentives previously were approved; they include $2.6 million in tax increment financing and $3.1 million from a special sales tax.

Plans call for adding 120 studio apartments, a boutique hotel, and commercial space that could include retail, office, a restaurant, brewery, gym and/or self-storage, plus a common area. It’s the second mill site proposed for redevelopment near downtown in recent months. Source: Greenville News
