Public Storage plans to construct two new buildings, including a six-story self-storage facility at 880 S. Pickett St., at Burnside Place, in Alexandria, VA. Construction will begin soon; first, a demolition company must finish knocking down the former BoatUS Association building. There will be commercial tenants on the ground level. The project is near Aslin Beer Co. in the West End, west of South Van Dorn. The second building is planned for multifamily residential.

Swintstorage, a self-storage developer based in Savannah, Ga., has purchased a former Toys R Us site in Mobile, AL, for $2.7 million. The company plans to renovate the building to hold climate-controlled units. Plans call for adding large roll-up doors so that moving trucks could drive in, unload and then leave. In Seffner, FL, a site at US Highway 92 and Pine Street was rezoned to enable another 120 covered RV and boat spaces for a project backed by Burke Development (based in Clearwater, FL) and TDAK Development (based in Seymour, IN). The new space is in addition to the approximately 59,000-square-foot, 462-unit, climate-controlled facility that Hillsborough County approved earlier. The developers of Loan Star Self-Storage have obtained $7.5 million in financing for construction and land acquisition to build a 1,255-unit storage facility at 2500 Lone Star Drive in Dallas, TX. The developer, Austin-based Central Southwest Texas Development LLC, was represented by JLL. In Wisconsin, the Menomonie City Council will hold a public hearing Nov. 18 about a proposed ordinance amendment that would change the size, location and number of units allowed at storage facilities. The city’s planning commission recommended the changes, which include allowing a maximum of 350 units in one building for those with indoor, climate-controlled capability.
