JLL hires Brian Somoza for self-storage team

Brian Somoza (pictured above) has been hired as a managing director at commercial real estate giant JLL (formerly Jones Lang LaSalle) to focus on self-storage properties. He will work alongside Steve Mellon, a managing director who also specializes in self-storage.

Before joining JLL, Somoza spent three years at self-storage REIT Public Storage as acquisition manager.

“My domestic and international experience in the self-storage sector is all-encompassing, and I look forward to sharing that with the industry,” Somoza, who works in Los Angeles, said in a recent interview with GlobeSt.com.

Clark Investment Group

Wichita, KS-based Clark Investment Group hired Rod Scheck to fill a newly created position overseeing the company’s construction projects.

Clark Investment Group is the parent company of Security Self-Storage, which has facilities in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio and Texas. The company has an existing pipeline of 10 self-storage projects, with two now under construction, according to the Wichita Business Journal.

Clark Investment Group, which also provides private equity to the self-storage industry, recently named James Exline as chief financial officer. The company is looking to hire an asset manager.

Select Capital Corp.

Brian Buehler has been promoted to national sales director at Select Capital Corp.

Buehler is responsible for selling shares of Strategic Storage Trust II Inc., a newly formed self-storage REIT that’s in the IPO stage. The REIT is sponsored by Ladera Ranch, CA-based Strategic Storage Holdings LLC, which operates SmartStop Self Storage.

Buehler previously worked with Strategic Storage Holdings as dealer-manager for the stock offering of Strategic Storage Trust Inc., a non-traded REIT.

The new REIT wants to raise as much as $1 billion.

Bull Realty Inc.

Graham Hill has been hired as senior vice president of the National Self Storage Group at Bull Realty Inc., an Atlanta-based commercial real estate firm. Hill will advise self-storage operators and investors in the Southeast.

“Self-storage has become one of commercial real estate’s hottest niche sectors, so now was the right time to add a distinguished commercial real estate professional like Graham to our group,” said Michael Bull, CEO of Bull Realty.

The William Warren Group

Tracy Sells has been hired as director of strategic partnerships at The William Warren Group Inc., parent company of StorQuest Self Storage. Sells will be responsible for overseeing the company’s third-party management program and generating new business.

Sells was director of third-party management at self-storage REIT CubeSmart.
