True Storage completed a 455-unit self-storage facility in Warwick, RI. CubeSmart manages the 60,000-square-foot property, formerly a manufacturing facility for Interplex, a technology and engineering firm based in Singapore. True Storage bought the property in September 2021 when Interplex relocated. True Storage is a New Hampshire company. Source: REBusiness Online

Leon Holding Co., based in Kalispell, MT, and which develops and operates self-storage facilities in that state, plans to expand into Colorado, Oklahoma and Wyoming, owner Nathan Garber said. He plans to build hundreds of storage units in the next six years. Source: Inside Self Storage

The Blythewood Planning Commission in South Carolina voted unanimously against zoning about 7 acres in the 11000 block of Wilson Boulevard to allow for a self-storage facility. Plans called for a 300-unit site. The Blythewood Town Council will have the final say on March 28. Source: The Voice

Douglass Development Corp., a real estate company funded by Douglass Jemal and based in Washington, D.C., is the parent company of Jamals Reading. The Findlay (OH) City Planning Commission approved a site plan for a self-storage facility of three buildings at 620 Western Ave. in Findlay. The site is at the northwest corner of Western Avenue and Lincoln Street. Source: The Courier

The Goshen Plan Commission gave initial approval to HSN LLC and Abonmarche Consultants for a major zoning change and preliminary site plan approval to allow a new, eight-building self-storage facility at the southeast corner of Ferndale Road and Willows Way in Goshen, IN. it would be part of The Willow Lakes of Goshen. StoragePRO Management opened a self-storage facility sitting on 5 acres at 475 Lopes Road in Fairfield, CA. It has 131,000 square feet spread across 930 indoor storage units, plus a two-story RV, boat and vehicle storage area on the ground floor. Legislative

The moratorium on self-storage units inside Maumee, OH is about to end after almost three months. The city council approved the moratorium on Dec. 30, 2021, temporarily stopping the approval of merits, plans and applications to build mini warehouse facilities within the city. Mayor Richard Carr said that city officials since have cleaned up code requirements for storage units. Source: The Blade

In Washington State, the Anacortes City Council eliminated self-service storage as a permitted use in the commercial use zone, which is for general service and retail commercial uses, and mixed uses. Self-service storage facilities now in use will be allowed to continue operating. Self-service storage remains a permitted use in the commercial marine zone and light manufacturing zone.
