The Roll Up: Developers open 6,000-unit facility in Manhattan

A 6,000-unit self-storage facility has been completed at 155 West 29th St. in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Public Storage will run the facility, which is 18 stories high and has 180,000 NRSF. The project features units as small as 2×2 and as big as 8×12. The project is a joint venture of The Davis Cos., a Boston-based development and investment firm, and Highland Development ventures. Mancini Duffy was the architect of record.

On Aug. 14, Self Stor Storage Mississauga opened in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with a 180,000-square-foot building at 6005 Erin Mills Parkway. It has approximately 1,200 self-storage units. The facility serves customers in Mississauga, Brampton, Etobiocoke, Oakville, Toronto and elsewhere. Source: Real Estate News Exchange

The site of the former Liscio’s Bakery facility at 124-128 Delsea Drive in Grassboro, NJ will be converted into a drive-thru self-storage building, which will connect to the existing older warehouse building, which also will be used for self-storage. A site has been proposed for storage at the northwest corner of North River Road at East Venice Avenue in Sarasota, FL. Site owner JEM Florida LLC envisions a building with access from two major roads. The entire North River Market Place Critical area Plan covers 192 acres, and that includes the self-storage site and a 51.5-acre mixed-use commercial center. Source: Herald-Tribune 

The planning board in Ludlow, PA continues to ponder a proposed self-storage building that some residents oppose. The project includes a development with six storage containers at 590-596 Center St. in the Agriculture Moderate Density Overlay District, where self-storage sites are allowed as long as they have an approved Planning Board site plan and a special permit. Residents have concerns about the hours of operation, noise, traffic and more. Next up: An Aug. 24 board meeting. Source: The Reminder

Developer Marc Slayton garnered a $27.8 million debt package to refinance a self-storage site in Eastern Long Island, NY. White Oak Real Estate Capital supplied a bridge loan for Slayton’s GoodFriend Storage on 50 Commerce Drive in Cutchogue, NY. The deal refinances a $24 million construction loan that was used to expand the facility from 80,000 square feet to 122,000. The money will help strengthen the property during lease-up of the Phase II expansion, which are mostly climate-controlled units. The second phase of the GoodFriend expansion project in Long Island’s North Fork region may obtain a temporary certificate of occupancy in the next couple of months. Source: Commercial Observer

In Massachusetts, the Westfield Conservation Commission approved a permit for a self-storage facility at 109 Medeiros Way. The vote accepted a permit for Todd Cellular of Sovereign Builders. The property has 21 acres, but only the northernmost 6 acres will go to the project, which will have seven buildings. Source: Massachusetts Live
