A proposal to convert a closed Regal Cinemas theater into a self-storage site and add a four-story apartment building, medical office and coffee shop will be heard on March 21 at the Branford (CT) Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission, which approved an application to develop the site related to the Planned Development district permit in December 2023. The plan has 13.75 acres between Interstate 95 and Route 1. CP Branford LLC proposes to turn the former multiplex movie theater into a self-storage facility.

The City of Avondale, AZ, rejected an application for Extra Space Storage to build a self-storage facility at the southwest corner of Indian School and Osborn roads. It would be two stories high. Multiple residents have opposed the project, which is at a former infill site. The project would have 110,620 square feet, located near The Wigwam resort and Estrella Mountain Community College. Self-storage may be coming to a development in Florida’s Collier County planning commission unanimously approved in favor of the project. It concerns the northern corner of Livingston Road and Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The northern half of the 4.6-acre property in North Naples, east of Allura Naples apartments and south of the Mediterra community, already has planned to add a car wash and gas station. The applicant, Livingston Veterans Commercial LLC, asked that commercial uses be expanded to the southern half of the property to make room for 100,000 square feet of indoor storage. The entire property is limited to 100,000 square feet of intensity, so any retail space would take away from the allowed size of the self-storage facility. Source: WINK
StorSafe requested a special-use permit for a 2.69-acre property at 1530 Hope Lane, just off Highway 152, in China Grove, NC. The proposed one-story building would have an additional 14,750-square-foot mini-storage building, which would be indoors. U-Haul has broken ground for a new retail and self-storage facility at 1985 State Road, Manheim, PA. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Lancaster is scheduled to open in 2025. The three-story facility will include 1,295 indoor, climate-controlled self-storage rooms. The 13.33-acre property also will have a warehouse for U-Box mobile storage containers. In upstate New York, the Village of Lewiston’s Board of Trustees has banned self-storage facilities in the village, making self-storage places not a permitted use in business and residential business districts, which remain eligible for a use variance granted by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
