Developers Casey Brock and Tony Berry hope to create something special – “a modern version of yesterday’s warehouse” – as construction begins on its new self-storage facility at 1861 Ashley River Road in Charleston, SC. It will have 675 climate- and humidity-controlled units, and 96,000 square feet, with CubeSmart as manager.
“Our objective was to give a contemporary treatment to the architecture with form and materials,” said Lyudmila Sobchuk, principal architect. “The idea is to integrate this building into its surroundings, much as warehouses have done for decades.”
The developers made it a joint venture with RADCO Ventures of Atlanta, GA. SGB NarmourWright Design handled the project design.

The vacant Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range at 7770 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, GA, may become a self-storage facility. RRB Development LLC is seeking a conditional-use permit for the site. Boardwalk Development Group of Johns Creek, GA, has opened its first multistory, climate-controlled self-storage facility in Woodstock, GA. CubeSmart is managing the 100,000-square-foot facility, located at 185 Woodstock Parkway. It has 631 units. The company said City of Woodstock commissioners and city leaders twice rejected the project before approving it on the third try. The company also said it is buying 100-plus properties in the Southeast, with recent purchases in Canton, Cumming and Dawsonville, all in Georgia.

Public Storage has opened a new self-storage facility at 3601 Blue Horizon View in Colorado Springs, CO. It has about 107,000 square feet and more than 700 units, including outdoors. In April, the company opened another self-storage facility at 6190 Tutt Blvd. and it has 1,213 indoor, climate-controlled units.
Simply Self Storage of Orlando, FL, opened new self-storage facilities in Hauppauge and Lindenhurst on New York’s Long Island. The Lindenhurst facility is at 1070 Route 109, and has 105,292 square feet and 1,022 units. The Hauppauge location is at 745 Old Willets Path, just north of the Long Island Expressway, and has 923 units and 84,915 square feet.
