The Roll Up: 1,111-unit crowdfunded storage facility slated for Long Island

CrowdStreet, a real estate investment platform, launched an offering for a ground-up development of a self-storage facility in Long Island, NY, called 10 Gordon Drive Self Storage (below). It will have 133,698 square feet across 1,111 climate-controlled units, and be located in Nassau County, 15 minutes away from Queens. Barone Management entered into a joint-venture partnership with Tuck-It-Away Associates to develop the facility. Barone has completed or is in the process of developing over 2.5 million square feet valued at more than $800 million. Tuck-It-Away Associates also is involved, and has completed 15 self-storage projects in New York City metro and Miami, FL. It has completed more than 700,000 square feet of self-storage space valued at more than $200 million. Source: Benzinga

Newman Realty Partners LLC plans to build a 121,860-square-foot, three-story climate-controlled facility at 13705 International Drive in Orlando, FL. It would have approximately 950 units and would be Newman’s fourth Florida project, with three more in the pipeline. The company is seeking approval from Orange County.

The Rome, NY Planning Board unanimously approved a SEQR request and site plan review for A&L Storage to build approximately 18,000 square feet of self-storage units on an approximately 2.16-acre site at Bateaux Place. The company rectified problems with the driveway width, stormwater management and landscaping/screening. Source: Daily Sentinel

The Buford City Commission in Georgia considered a rezoning request for 20.847 acres at 4105 Gainesville Highway. The applicant is bSide Partners LLC. Among other things, the company requested a special-use permit to enable a mini warehouse/self-storage facility for the property. The company also hopes to put up seven buildings with a total of 78,000 square feet of office/warehouse space and 100,000 square feet of warehouse space. Source: North Gwinnett Voice

McKinney, TX will be getting a new BestBox self-storage facility at the southeast corner of Custer Road and Silverado Trail, with two one-story buildings on about 4 acres. BestBox has six locations in Missouri and Montana and is in expansion mode. The McKinney City Council unanimously voted in favor a specific-use permit for the project. Source: Community Impact

In Michigan, the Manistee Township Planning Commission approved a site plan and special-use permit request for Michigan Self Storage LLC, based in Shelby. The property is at the corner of Kemmer Road and East Parkdale Avenue, at 1763 Kemmer Road. The proposal calls for eight buildings, each with multiple units. Michigan Self Storage operates a second location in Manistee and has other facilities in Big Rapids, Shelby, Ludington and Fruitport. Source: News Advocate

In Pennsylvania, the Horsham Township Council reviewed a plan to build a self-storage facility at 901 Horsham Road on the site of Joseph’s Catering, next to Hatboro-Horsham High School. Artist renderings show a three-story, 120,000-square-foot building that would resemble an office site. Apartments and a hotel have been mentioned in the past as possible projects for that 5.68-acre parcel. The council will consider the matter at its March 27 meeting. Source: Patch

SecureSpace opened a newly built SecureSpace Self Storage facility at 644 W. Mount Pleasant Ave. in Livingston, NJ. It has 97,250 NRSF of climate-controlled units plus 94 covered RV parking spaces. The business sits on a 4.5-acre site. A three-mile-plus radius has household median income of more than $150,000. Source: Yahoo!

In Illinois, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 824-unit The Lock Up Self Storage at 1255 S. Naperville Blvd. Rick Hielscher is the owner of the storage site and his family-owned business operates in eight states. Source: Daily Herald
