The Roll Up: True Storage completes retail to storage conversion in Connecticut

True Storage opened a new self-storage facility at 10 Prospect Hill Terrace in East Windsor, CT. It opened Jan. 24. The renovated, 51,383-square foot facility has 585 climate-controlled units and previously was a site for Burlington Coat Factory (below). It is the second store in the True Storage portfolio that Store Space Self Storage is managing, and a third property, located in Columbus, GA, is scheduled for late Q1 or early Q2 of 2023. The first facility together is in Lafayette, IN.

Based in Manchester, NH, True Storage also has several other projects underway including a 70,000-square-foot Kmart store conversion in Monroe, MI, a 75,000-square-foot conversion of a Gander Mountain Sports in Tonawanda, NY, a 87,000-square-foot ground up facility in Methuen, MA (below), as well as a ground up development in Woonsocket, RI.

An Illinois real estate firm that bought a Baton Rouge, LA office building once occupied by Goudchaux’s department store and Netflix might turn the structure into a self-storage facility. Baton Rouge QOZ Self-Storage LLC bought the building at 415 N. 15th St. The buyer has the same Oak Brook, IL address as the Inland Real Estate Group of Companies. The building has nearly 158,000 square feet and sits in an opportunity zone. Matthew Shirley of Saurage Rotenberg Commercial Real Estate represented the seller, Renaissance Park LLC of California, and the buyer. The property’s asking price was a little more than $4 million. LSC Development LLC finished the ground-up construction of a five-story, 107,195-square-foot, 1,533-unit climate-controlled site at 1 South St. in Garden City, NY. It’s on the direct access road to Roosevelt Field Shopping Mall. Frank G. Relf Architect PC designed the project. Life Storage Inc. will manage the facility. LSC is based in Barrington, IL. Legislative

In Ohio, the Troy City Council approved a moratorium on new applications for self-storage units for 180 days, as of Feb. 7. “This will provide staff with time to evaluate and recommend appropriate land-use regulations,” said Jeff Schilling, a council member. Source: Miami Valley Today
