U-Haul has taken over a 9.38-acre property that includes a closed Kmart store, now called U-Haul Storage at Jolly & Cedar, at 5400 Cedar St. in Lansing, MI. It will be managed by the U-Haul facility at 56020 S. Cedar. U-Haul plans to add about 800 climate-controlled indoor self-storage units to the 119,791-square-foot building. In the ecofriendly category, it will add a bike rest area where people can use free tools and benches to work on their bikes. It also will have a U-Haul Reuse Center, where people and donate gently used household items, furniture, sporting equipment, bikes and clothing, to be shared in the community.

Metropolitan Capital Advisors arranged a $4 million construction loan for a self-storage facility in Mobile, AL. Anytime Storage will use the loan to build a three-story structure with 466 climate-controlled units. It will be Alabama’s first Anytime Storage site. Source: REBusiness Online

The Silverfield Group and Morales Group seek to build a three-story, 788-unit, 98,000-square-foot Extra Space Storage facility, plus a 5,000-square-foot retail building, in the Murray Hill area of Jacksonville, FL. City officials are reviewing the plans. The 1.66-acre site is at northeast Edgewood Avenue South and Plymouth Street. Edgewood Storage LLC, made up of Silverfield Development Co. and Fairfax Properties LLC, paid $1.3 million for the property Sept. 9. Construction could begin by the end of April. Construction permits have been granted for a new $10 million US Storage Center at 4800 E. Valley Blvd. in El Sereno, in Los Angeles, CA. The three-floor building will have about 151,000 square feet. Source: The Eastsider 

Three closed Pick ’n Save grocery buildings in Milwaukee’s western suburbs have been sold, and a Florida investor plans to convert the one in Delavan, WI, into a self-storage facility. Ted Filer, managing partner of the investment group that spent $3.73 million for the Delavan site at 207 S. Wright St., plans to repurpose the 37,800 square feet of the former grocery store as a CubeSmart facility. He also will seek other tenants for the remaining 32,700 square feet of the building. Construction is being planned now for Venice Boulevard Self Storage, a six-story, 142,300-square-foot (net rentable 102,000), 1,172-unit climate-controlled structure at 1810 Venice Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. The building is expected to be finished in early 2022. Stephen Grossman was the broker for Baranof Holdings of Dallas, which bought 0.82 acres for the project. The Boone Board of Adjustment approved a $7.5 million Save Green self-storage facility in Boone, NC. The four-story, 134,852-square-foot, 990-unit facility will go on the site of the former Modern Toyota of Boone property at East King Street and New Market Boulevard. Adams Property Group is building a three-story, 97,000-square-foot, climate-controlled self-storage facility at 5109 Robinhood Village in Winston-Salem, NC. It will take 10 to 12 months to finish.
