The Hampshire Cos. and Harrison Street announced that construction has begun on a self-storage facility at 141 US 206 in Hillsborough, NJ. It’s the second ground-up development project for this joint venture, which focuses on developing facilities along the Interstate 95 corridor from Florida to New England. The first project, in Providence, RI, is scheduled to be completed by year-end. The Hillsborough project, with 903 climate-controlled units, is scheduled to be done by February 2020. Extra Space Storage will manage the 120,524-square-foot facility.

A Woodland Hills, CA company plans to build a $10 million self-storage facility in downtown Tulsa on property bought from BH Media Group Inc., owner of the Tulsa World. DealPoint Merrill LLC plans to open the storage center in May 2020. The property, 2.066 acres, had been used to store newsprint in a 47,521-square-foot warehouse near First Street, between Boulder and Cheyenne Avenues. Source: Tulsa World

Golden Valley Storage will build 636 units plus 100 spaces for RV and boat storage in Lathrop, CA. It will be the first project built in the Central Lathrop area since 2005 and is expected to draw customers from Central Lathrop, River Islands and those passing by on I-5. The city of Bradenton, FL, approved a redevelopment project along 14th Street West that would include a three-story self-storage facility as well as 200 units of affordable housing across the street. The Bourne Planning Board unanimously approved a site plan review and a special permit to allow a self-storage facility plus retail to replace the former Grand Union supermarket at 170 Clay Pond Road in Monument Beach on Cape Cod, MA. The developer, Clay Pond Acquisitions LLC, still needs to get a building permit. The Grand Union closed in November 2008. Project plans include building 105,660 square feet of interior, climate-controlled storage units plus another 35,600 square feet of exterior, non-climate-controlled units.  Source: Cape Cod Times

Washington County developer Dittmar Realty Inc. and its affiliate, My Choice Self Storage, opened a climate-controlled self-storage facility west of Germantown in Slinger, WI on the northwest corner of Highway 60 and Hillside Road in the American Eagle Business Park. Moratorium

In Florida, City of Pompano Beach commissioners on Sept. 24 placed a six-month moratorium on building self-storage developments. During the moratorium, city staffers will work on proposals to prevent clusters of self-storage in  the city. Source: The Real Deal
